Out of the mouth of Babes…

As many of you know we run safety programs during the summer called radKIDS.  (www.radkids.org).  It truly is the most empowering safety program for kids available today and I am proud to be an instructor. Last summer one of my kids took the week-long session and LOVED it, though he fought his mom originally about coming. He didn’t want to take a class and felt he was old enough to take care of himself.  Still she made him take it anyway. He had such a great time and learned so much that he couldn’t wait to take it again.  At the end of the program I always spend time talking with the parents about upcoming programs.  That particular day I was discussing the women’s comprehensive safety program and how this is  a great class for moms to take.  When I gave the shout out for questions he raised his hand,  looked at his mom and asked her in front of everyone if she had taken it already.  She said she had not. He then said “mom you wanted me to take this to be safe and because you loved me so much, and I want you to take that one to be safe too and because I love you so much.” Everyone was shocked at this honest and sincere plea to his mom to take this class, and that he had recognized so much value even at a young age.  It was a moment that brought a tear to my eye. Most likely others too.  So the next time that class schedule gets posted think about what you say to your kids to encourage them to participate. Turn those words on yourself and encourage yourself.  Just like this little boy, you will have a great time and will look forward to the time it comes again.  Check out the website for programs that are currently enrolling.  Don’t you think you mean as much to THEM as they do to YOU?
